Engineering→Transferring

Engineering→Transferring

When I was a kid, I said I wanted to go to UCLA, which is the University of California Los Angeles. One of the most well known schools, and has a massive applicant pool to choose from causing it to be quite selective. The backdoor into this school is through transferring, but with that the questions of “What courses do I need to take?” or “Will they accept this course?” arise. My questions have been answered due to my Introduction to Engineering Course that required me to present a slideshow about the transfer requirements and the job outlook of Aerospace Engineering.

ENGR-1, which is my college’s Introduction to Engineering course states, “This course is an orientation to the preparation, training, practice, obligations and ethics of the engineering profession, as well as an introduction to the various engineering disciplines. Speakers from various fields present opportunities and challenges in the engineering profession. Academic success strategies related to the study of engineering are emphasized.” which I felt to be a good explanation of what it is. It’s not like Statics or Dynamics where you’re thinking about how to solve problems, it’s a showcase of engineering as a whole to potential engineering students. I think that this course is essential for students who may be interested in pursuing engineering, and from my own experience it gives a good understanding of all the disciplines of engineering which makes it a critical part of the beginning of my engineering journey.

So with all that out of the way, my engineering presentation was about Aerospace Engineering and is made for people interested in UCLA. It’s safe to say that all semesters and quarters would be packed full of courses, but with that being said it’s not impossible. UCLA accepted around 15 percent of Aerospace Engineering transfers and that could easily be any prospective student.
