An Engineer's First Semester Reflection

An Engineer's First Semester Reflection

My first semester of my engineering journey is officially complete. Well, it was complete two weeks ago, but I’ve been relaxing since then. I’ve had some time to reflect on how it went, and I’d say it was good overall. I can say it wasn’t that stressful overall, due to my classes being on the easier side compared to what’s to come. I believe it was a good acclimation to college, and now I know what to expect going forward into my engineering journey.

Starting with Calculus 1, it was really easy due to me already knowing Calculus 1 and 2 from AP Calculus BC, and my Professor being amazing. There were a few things I struggled with, but now I have a complete, thorough understanding of everything in Calculus 1.

Now, Computer Programming in C++. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite have the thorough understanding of the language I wished for. However, I do have knowledge in completing basic tasks in C++ which is the goal of that class. It won’t be my last Computer Science class, as I have MatLab coming up. But it served its purpose of being a good introduction to that science.

My third class was history, and I loved that class. My Professor was amazing, and he always came to class with so much energy. I also just love history, so it was a good break from all my STEM courses giving me an easier class that I love. I will do more history courses in the future just for my own education and to give me more depth into a subject I’m passionate about.

Overall, my fall semester was good. It wasn’t too hard, which was nice, and it gave me a chance to learn about college life and how to find my place in the ecosystem. Going forward, my spring semester looks very difficult, but until then, I have a semi-relaxing break for two weeks.
