"Helping students navigate the journey of higher education"

Nontraditional College Student

Wesley is a first generation, former foster youth born into a poverty stricken household in South Korea. He was later adopted, and he moved to the United States, where he showed early interest in creativity through Legos guiding his interest in engineering. Wesley has navigated the education system largely by himself, and during high school he took numerous AP Exams and Dual Enrollment Courses. Wesley attended El Camino College in Torrance, California before transferring to Stanford University.

Wesley

Champion of Student Advocacy

At El Camino College Wesley served as the Student Trustee, directly representing all students in the district on the Board of Trustees and advocated for policies increasing access to college. In February 2025, he met with the district's Congressional Representatives in Washington DC, to advocate for the advancement of educational access. His leadership expanded state-wide as Chair of the Student Trustee Caucus, representing 2.1 million California community college students. Wesley co-authored and passed a resolution citing California Education Code titled, "Ensuring Student Trustee Rights and Equitable Pay"

From El Camino to Stanford

After two years at El Camino College, Wesley transferred to Stanford University where he built his own major, Engineering Design and Business Administration. Wesley's aspirations lie in being an engineering leader, building solutions at the confluence of technology and policy, while creating communities that make education more accessible and equitable. He is extremely grateful to have this opportunity, and will always admire the California Community College system for its support in his journey.
